Humidor
Tips
Most humidors have an interior of untreated Spanish cedar,
the preferred wood for humidifying and aging premium cigars.
The wood needs to be humidified or seasoned before the
box is ready to hold cigars.
1) Take a new sponge, make sure it is unscented
and free of soap, and wet it with distilled water.
2) Wipe down all the exposed interior wood, including
any trays or dividers, and the interior lid.
3) After you've wiped down the wood, wet the sponge
with more distilled water and place it in the humidor
on a plastic bag to avoid direct contact with the wood,
then close the lid.
4) Next, prepare the humidification device according
to the manufacturer's instructions. Only use distilled
water. Close the humidor with the humidifying element,
also called a humistat, and the wet sponge inside.
5) The next day, refresh
the humistat and check the sponge. If the sponge is dry,
add more distilled water. If it is damp, leave it alone.
6) Let the humidor sit
another night before removing the sponge. The walls of
your humidor have now absorbed all the water they need
and you can now store your cigars in their proper environment.
